Piano Repair in Burlington, VT

Repair or Regulation?

There is a difference between repairing a piano and regulating one. If your piano is not performing up to par, then chances are you need the help of a professional technician. Aural Piano Tuning’s founder, John Daly, has the skills and expertise to proudly offer both piano regulation and piano repair to customers around Burlington and greater Vermont.

Piano Repair

Piano repairs involve fixing or replacing broken parts that have significant wear or are inoperable. There are more than 10,000 moving parts in the piano, all of which need to be functioning optimally for the musician to have the broadest spectrum of expressiveness. Below are some of the repair services we offer:

  • Broken string replacement
  • Keytop maintenance
  • Tightening loose action parts for all keys
  • Easing sticking keys
  • Removing lost motion between all the keys and the action
  • Tuning pin(s) treatment if they will not hold the required tension
  • Replacing brittle or misaligned dampers
  • Repairing broken, missing, or misaligned hammers
  • Refurbishing and adjusting pedal issues
  • Reshaping hammers for a larger sound spectrum
  • Regluing Ivories

Piano Regulation

Piano regulation is adjusting all the parts in the piano to make them work together cohesively, so they operate uniformly and efficiently. The biggest functional differences between a used and brand-new piano are that the parts of the used piano might not have been adjusted regularly to counteract its usage. If you notice any of the following symptoms, your piano may be in need of regulation:

  • Notes do not feel uniform
  • Notes have a slow response time
  • Notes unable to repeat rapidly
  • Loss of playing with power (loudness)
  • Inability to play notes softly
  • Hammers occasionally double-strike the strings
  • Some keys appear to depress farther than others
  • Loss of motion between pressing the key and getting the hammer to respond
  • Notes have an inconsistent dampening

John Daly has been trained by some of the best technicians in the country, with methods handed down since the invention of the piano. Call or email us today for professional piano repair or regulation in Burlington, VT. We look forward to hearing from you!
